I love Valentine’s Day. And not just because of the chocolate and flowers (although chocolate is on the top of my food pyramid) but because it’s a time when we can express our thankfulness to those closest to us. And I have so much to be thankful for in my husband. He’s the kindest, loving, sweetest man and father I know. This year marks 8 years of marriage and after 8 years, 2 kids, and 10 pounds later, I’m more in love with him than the day we got married. (Girls, it only gets better!) He’s the one who makes me laugh, who dries my tears, and who extends grace beyond what I deserve. He’s woken up in the middle of the night to help feed our newborns, he regularly buys me flowers, and he makes sure we have family devotions in the evenings. He takes time to pray for and with others, takes time to go on outings with us, and takes time to paint our pre-school daughter’s nails. I mean, isn’t he awesome?! And as sweet as he is, I also love that he’s a man’s man who runs Tough Mudders, cheers on the Lakers, and loves to go camping.
This weekend we are heading to our church’s marriage retreat which includes a dinner out on our own, a night at a hotel, and 5 helpful sessions on marriage. And I am so looking forward to this time away with him! Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely adore our children but taking time away to refresh and refocus is something that will make us better parents in the long run. Because I truly believe that strong marriages make strong families.
Because we will be heading out of town this weekend, we’ve decided to keep Valentine’s Day dinner simple by making reservations at our local Chick-Fil-A. We were recently there with our children when we saw a flier for their Valentine’s Date Night. It comes complete with a free beverage, live music, and a special appearance by the cow! Yay! We’ve already been there and done that with fancy candle lit dinners: we’ve had dinners by the beach, in Downtown Los Angeles, in Beverly Hills, and a lot of other romantic places but sometimes, its great to just have some fun and do something spontaneous like eat Valentine’s Dinner at Chick-Fil-A. And you better believe we’re gonna get us some of that strawberry shake! Because how often can you enjoy a dessert without having little hands to take it away?!
